Have you ever reflected on your past behaviour? Questioned why you think in certain ways? Been asked the dreaded “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” question in an interview and – palms sweating – attempted to assess your own character?
If you answered “Yes” to any of the above, you’ve engaged in metacognition.
Metacognition sounds like something dreamt up by Arthur C Clarke. However, it simply means “thinking about thinking.” It describes what happens when we evaluate (and perhaps decide to change) our own process of thinking, understanding and learning.
There’s been a rise in interest in metacognition in recent years – from the popularity of Myers-Briggs tests to the boom in mindfulness techniques – as we realise that a willingness to think about our own thinking may help us to change and grow.
Wi-Ai taps into our deep human interest in metacognition. If you’re a financial services provider, our behavioural bias technology may be a profitable move for your customers – and for you – as it allows clients to consider their thinking in order to avoid self-sabotaging decisions .
So, to conclude, I think we should think about thinking about thinking. Thoughts?
